FAQ

What is the adoption fee?

Adoption fees are $225 for dogs and $125 for cats.

What is included in the adoption fee?

The adoption fee includes the pet's spay/neuter, vaccinations for their age, a negative fecal parasite exam, a heartworm test, and a microchip. Many pets that come through, depending on need, also get a dental and/or heartworm treatment.

Where can I get more information on the pet I'm interested in?

Our pets have bios under the "adoption" tab. Pictures and videos are also regularly updated on our Facebook. If you are interested beyond that, please fill out an application and we will be in contact with you.

Is that stray available for adoption? I'm interested!

Any stray that comes in to GCHS is posted online to try to find its home. After one hour, vaccinations are given to the stray. Strays are on hold for four days in order to give the owners time to claim them. After four days, the stray becomes the property of GCHS. It will be spayed/neutered and processed, and then go up for adoption. Adoptions are NOT DONE on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested in a stray, please fill out an application and it will be looked at once the dog becomes adoptable.

Does this pet get along with children/cats/dogs?

This information is located in the pet's biography under their picture. If the information is not mentioned, it means we do not know.

How Do I apply for a pet?

Go under the "Adoption" tab, and click "Adoption Application". Fill out the form and click "Submit" when finished.

What is the adoption process?

An application is filled out and then vetted by our staff to ensure that the applicant has a good standing veterinary record and would be a good fit for the individual pet that they are applying for. Once an application is approved, our staff will contact the applicant to set up a meeting. For dogs, any other dogs in the home must come in for the meet and greet. We prefer for everyone in the home to be present for the meet and greet. If all goes well at this meeting, an adoption can happen the same day or an appointment can be scheduled for later in the same week.

Can I stop in any time to visit the animals?

UPDATE COVID-19 protocols: We are only allowing meetings with approved applicants. We are not allowing walk-ins. If you are interested in a pet, fill out an application and we will be in contact with you to schedule a meeting if you are approved.

We are currently renting space inside of a veterinary clinic. Because of this, walk-ins can be difficult for us. We prefer for you to make an appointment to come in and view the animals.

How do I volunteer?

We are not currently accepting volunteers at this time due to COVID-19

How can I become a foster parent?

If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, please print out this form, fill it out, and return it to us: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ixpDrF_s1oZZRrKH_L61uhSDJmA0Nt4091o1TgZiwEU/edit?usp=sharing
